Why Sustainability?

When planning our market garden company, we were faced, like many young agrarians around the world, with a choice. We could implement the current industrial methods of growing, or we could do something different.  Something better.

Sustainability has three main components: environmental, economic, and social.  We have all been called to be wise stewards of this earth we live on together. Each one of us is responsible to do our part to protect and respect it. As the world changes, it is exciting to see a new group of thinkers, planners, achievers, and growers emerge and we hope many will make choices for a sustainable future. At Duurzame Growers, we want to do our part.  Our part isn’t to change the world overnight; everyone possesses unique gifts and talents.  Let’s harness that energy and come together in our local communities to make a positive change. Now, that doesn’t mean we leave everything we have learned behind.  Our past generations have equipped us with powerful wisdom and research that can help guide us to make these necessary changes in harmony.  For many, who perhaps don’t know how to make a change, remember it can be simple, moderate, and completed with small steps. For us, at Duurzame Growers, it’s planting minuscule seeds, kneeling in dirt, harvesting in the early morning dew, and providing our community with a safe and healthy locally-grown alternative.

This is our opportunity.   Let’s make it a beautiful part of this world’s story.
